NAME: Robert Joseph "RJ" MacCready (goes simply by MacCready)
GENDER: Male (he/him) • AGE: 22 (b. 2262) • HEIGHT: 5'5" • WEIGHT: ~120lbs

AT A GLANCE: A wiry stick of a man who is around 5'5". He's got messy light brown hair hidden under a military cap, and ill-kept stubble across his thin face. He wears plain green military fatigues with a white undershirt, and a brown duster, torn in the front. Maccready is frequently accompanied by the smell of cigarette smoke, stale beer, or gunpowder.

VOICE: Voiced by Matthew Mercer, prone to sarcasm, though he can be rather polite and soft-spoken, generally affable, depending on who he's speaking to. Notably, he almost never swears, and self-censors his language.

DEMEANOUR: His reputation as a mercenary has made it so that he can be slow to warm up to people, especially those he's unfamiliar with. Underneath his prickly exterior of self-preservation, he's fairly easygoing and amiable.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L.: 5 STR, 10 PER, 9 END, 7 CHA, 7 INT, 10 AGI, 8 LCK

> BACKGROUND

HISTORY: There's no history on Maccready other than that we know he's 12 in Fallout 3, and has been the Mayor of Little Lamplight since he was 10. He doesn't have a canonical date of birth, we don't know anything about his parents, or whether he's been in Lamplight his whole life… So, my personal headcanon is that his parents were probably just a pair of teens, who either knew about or were from Little Lamplight, thus leaving a baby there. Maccready was there up until leaving (being kicked out) at 16, at which point it was off to Big Town, and then wandering until he eventually ended up in the Commonwealth.

MEDICAL: It is my firm belief that all the children of Little Lamplight are malnourished, like, general Wasteland bullshit aside, these are kids fending for themselves and making the best of what they have with the limited knowledge they have. While I don't think any of them are particularly sickly, I do think they very likely tend to be on the smaller side due to a combination of poor genetics (parents from the Wastes) and poor nutrition.

All this to say, I do not see Maccready as someone who is very tall at all, I personally put him around 5'5". To me, he's visibly scrawny, bordering on underweight; he's not strong or athletic, but he isn't unfit. His build lends itself more for speed and agility, than brawling. He also has horrible teeth, there's no dental in the wastes, and he's missing a couple of molars and an incisor.

EDUCATION: Lamplighters got basic education, usually from the older kids. They did have educational materials from one of the Vaults, but overall, probably not well-educated compared to the standards in other settlements with kids. They could certainly seek out further education once they've left Lamplight, but I don't think Maccready would have. So, my take is that he can read and write passably. His handwriting is horrible, and there are definitely misspellings of more complicated words, and his reading level is probably better than it was, but it takes him time to read something more verbose and complex than it does his beloved Grognak comics.

> FAMILY

LUCY: Did you know there is a whole page of characters called Lucy in the FO universe? Anyway, things about this Lucy are kind of a mess. We know there's a Lucy around the same age as Maccready in Little Lamplight during the events of Fallout 3, but for some reason, the Lucy that Maccready mentions having married and having a child with is a different Lucy. Their history is that they met sometime after he left Little Lamplight and told her he was a solider.

I'm choosing to interpret Lucy from Little Lamplight and Lucy Maccready as the same person. There's no reason that it's not likely the two would have a chance to meet again after each leaving Little Lamplight at different points. Of course, Maccready would then lie and tell her that he's a soldier because there's a higher chance of him not wanting someone who previously knew him, and who was known to have thought highly of him, to think poorly of him now. TL;DR: Lamplight Lucy is also Lucy Maccready.

DUNCAN: We don't really know much about Duncan, at all. We don't even know how old he is, which seems like it would be a pretty pertinent thing to know. I'm placing him at around 4 years old, meaning he would have been born while his parents were around 18, but honestly, but I think that this tracks with what we know of the wastes. My headcanon is that he looks a lot like Lucy; tan skin, thick dark hair, dark brown eyes. Maccready didn't want to leave his son, of this I'm sure, but his best chance of survival is if Maccready ensures he gets the cure he needs.

Duncan is, as far as we know, on Maccready's homestead (whatever that might mean) and I'm going to assume he is with adults Maccready trusts, and is as safe as he possibly can be all things considered. Lamplight is a non-starter in my mind, even without knowing the disease affecting Duncan only affects children, I can't see Maccready sending his kid there when he knows how it runs.

> WHY THOUGH?

look, I have to be real with you. Maccready is from a game I would call poorly written, and within that game he is not a character who gets the best writing, either. So, why, then, would anyone want to even roleplay a character that they don't think is well-written? Potential, mostly. To be something a little more interesting if it was just more consistent, and you know... better.

Like, I don't want to take a canon character, and then make him unrecognisable to the point he's just an OC, that's not the fun for me, but I am going to try and connect some dots, provide answers to questions that the game lore doesn't answer, and otherwise provide myself with things about Maccready that should be kept consistent in how I choose to play him. Consider this my Maccready Bible. It's mostly for myself, but might be useful for people familiar with Fallout. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter.
